Blog every day Challenge: Day 2: Chance
Introduction
Yesterday, I vowed that I would do better with my blog writing and this challenge, but yet again, I find that it is nearly the end of the working day and I am frantically scraping together something to write.
I woke up this morning, looking forward to the day and this writing challenge, and then it suddenly dawned on me. This wasn’t one blog post a month or even one post a week! This was a single blog post every day for the rest of the month – I suddenly realised how mad and possibly foolish I had been!
But with the cries of great first blog post still reverberating in my eyes, I take once more to my keyboard to write today’s post on the theme of ‘chance’
Do thing’s happen by chance?
>As I sat here in my very small area of the blogging sphere, I have started to wonder whether things happen by chance or whether this is something at work that brings people and events together. Was it purely by chance that I saw the blog writing challenge yesterday and burst into action? Or was I really searching for something to get engaged with and adapted my desire to fit the tweet? People talk about chance meetings a lot. Those moments when you actually stumble upon someone who you now know and get one with so well as if you were meant to be together. I’m not talking necessarily about love and/or romance. That soul mate, someone with who you laugh about the same things and enjoy each other’s company. If you think about the global population can you truly just meet these people by ‘chance’
I am reminded of the Star Wars quote …
In my experience, there’s no such thing as luck.
Is luck the same as chance? As probability? and is there really no such thing as chance?
Take a chance!
I really like to feel secure. If you read my previous post about routine, then you will definitely recognise that in me. And feeling secure, often means that we don’t take a chance. Taking chances are for the thrill-seekers, the adrenaline eaters the people who like to throw caution to the wind and live life on the edge! That’s not us, or more so that’s not me! I’m more of a thoughtful, reflective person. I think of all the possibilities and then make a well-informed decision about what to do. But maybe that is where I, and maybe we, are going wrong.
Although risky taking a chance is fun. It is exciting and it is something which we never know the outcome of until we have done it. I’m not suggesting for one moment that you should take a chance and throw yourself from a plane strapped to someone else! I’m probably referring to smaller chances. Taking a risk and doing something which you haven’t done before, chancing a new hobby or pastime or taking a chance on someone. Having that belief that someone might have something positive and beneficial to share and contribute. Maybe it is time to not prejudge people and actually take a chance. I am a strong believer that there are not right or wrong decision in life. You only know that after you have made the decision so sometimes you have to just take a chance. And while you are thinking about it, there is one more chance which I would like you to take.
Go on, chance it!
You might be assuming that, at this point, I am going to bring the post back to myself and echo the lyrics of ABBA and ask you to take a chance on me! Well I did consider it, I’m not going to lie, but then I recognised a more beneficial ending.
We often shy away from things and then suddenly realise that the moment has past. We could have done something or met someone, acted or reacted, started or completed but instead we do nothing and let the moment go. As I write this post I am starting to realise that it is not important whether chances actually exist or not in the world. It doesn’t really matter if these are based on luck or brought about by some divine being. The important thing is not the actual chance of something happening, it is what we do with that chance.
So, as the sub-heading of this section suggests, go on, chance it! I dare you. I’m not referring to a dice game and event or even a chance meeting. I want you to take a chance on yourself. Have the confidence and security that you are, more than you think you are. You have self worth, confidence, abilities and attributes that make you a unique individual and that alone is worth celebrating and acting on. Let’s try to push away that self doubt, that nagging negativity and focus on the positive and take a chance on ourselves.
Summary
Day 2 completed! I have started to wonder how many days March actually has! But I think that it is thirty-one, so this post brings us nicely down into the twenties. Hope you enjoyed reading today’s post and I’ll see you all tomorrow!
